We were thrilled to have President Uchtdorf visit Norway. He held a meeting with the members on Saturday September 10th. It was a night that will be remembered by the Norwegian Saints for many years.

Elder Top has been serving in Romerike while waiting for his visa to Angola. He took a break from stacking chairs to take a picture. He left last Tuesday for the Provo MTC to learn Portugese and then he will finish his mission in Angola.

Our daughter Abbey and her husband Taylor arrived on Monday from Colorado. We had a fast paced week mixing sightseeing and missionary work.

Taylor’s great, great, great grandfather was an early convert to the Church in Fredrikstad. Christian Hans Monsen was the son of the jailer where early missionaries were held for preaching a “non-christian” religion. At the age of 14, Christian was responsible for taking food to the Elders. The missionaries shared the gospel with him, and one night he let them out of jail, went down to the river where Christian was baptized, and then locked them back up. The second floor of this building housed the jail. It was an emotional experience to share visiting this site on behalf of his family.

We drove from Oslo to Bergen. The beautiful Borgund Stave-Church was was a highlight! The timber for the church was felled in 1180 and it was built soon after.

As we drove into Flåm the fog was so thick we could barely see the road. We drove up the mountain to the Stegastein View Point. This was the view from the top. The clouds were hanging over the magnificent Sognefjord. We could hear the ferry’s horns but could not see a thing. It was pretty amazing to be above the clouds and not be in an airplane.

I love the story about 14 year old Christian! What an incredible young man that left a long legacy of faith! Thank you for sharing your experiences and pictures of some of those cute missionaries. I couldn’t be more happy that two of those elders missed the picture! The work is progressing!

Thank you President and Sister Hill for taking our son Taylor to see the jail and walk the cobble stone street to the river where Christian Hans Monson walked. We owe a debt of gratitude for his faith and sacrifice. Because of your pictures, they have been shared with many in the Monson family who shed tears while watching the video of the river where he was baptized and the pictures of the jail where missionaries taught him the gospel. A precious treasure for our family! In gratitude, Karen

Karen, I am also descended from Christian Hans Monson. Our son is just boarding the plane to begin his service as a missionary in Norway. So wonderful to discover a cousin–by the same name!

Great to see all the pictures. Glad to know elder McKell was absent in Bergen for teaching. I really appreciate the picture of the jail in fredrikstad. Hans Christian Monson is elder McKell s great great great grandfather as well. Thank you!
